Words To Rememeber- "Even the octopus praises The Lord."
We just completed our 9th unit! I can see the work load picking up slightly and the best part is watching him gradually become a reader! What fun! :) This unit was on octopus. We focused on octopus, oceans and praise. And we even had a special trip to a children's museum with Rosey and his first visit from the Tooth Fairy during this unit! Fun little surprises! :)

Day 1, as usual was a basic introduction, our picture cards and making a tambourine! This was fun...dance, sing, and making music! Focus was on praising. What is it and why do we do it?
Day 2, we did our calendar time, a little letter differentiation, made an octopus from hand tracings and worked on measuring. The measuring activity was a little something extra I added in. He loves using a ruler and of course doing math, and despite his lack of enthusiasm in the picture, he really did enjoy this! ;)

Day 3, we had sister home with us, so that added a little fun! She got to play letter BINGO and eat octopus hotdogs with us! :) In addition to this, we worked on math, blend ladder, and world map. We discussed the oceans, how they are connected and which one border the United States. Anything dealing with a map or globe is extremely fascinating to Grayson. He asks lots of questions and can spend an extended amount of time on this!
Apparently day 4 was a flop for picture taking!! But, take my word for it, we did do our school work! ;) One thing Grayson is particularly proud of is learning to read new words! I have never used or seen a blend ladder until doing school with him, but he really is learning a lot with this method! And its very short lessons so he can usually stay very focused while doing it! Which is always nice! ;) We also covered some of the day 5 work on Monday, because we were creeping up on Thanksgiving break and I wanted to complete this unit! :)
Tonight, we finished up day 5 and completed day 6 as well! Ada was able to be with us today too, since she is out of school! She will definitely be a good student next year! She loves it!! Swimmy was the book for this unit. By today, he was able to tell the story to me using the pictures, which was fun! And he enjoyed using the fish to make a big fish just like in the book! Of course, the highlight of the evening was the ocean mural they did! We painted to the classical music selection for this week and then just added the creatures and finishing touches. It turned out pretty awesome! :)
The ocean mural finishes off the unit for us, and then we move on to water! There was an activity we didn't get to that I had hoped to and that I think Grayson would really enjoy, which was a paper mache globe! I hope, if we don't get to it this weekend, we will probably spend a little time during our water unit doing that fun activity! :) For now, we will take off a few days to enjoy Thanksgiving and dive into Christmas!!!!! Wonder just how much school will get done this month?!? Next year, we may plan an extended break in December! Just so we can enjoy the Christmas festivities without planning school stuff! One of the perks to homeschooling! ;)
