We did it! We made it through our first week of our new school year. As I mentioned before we are using My Father's World again this year. It fit Grayson very well last year and we were pleased with what he was learning and how easy it was to follow along with this complete curriculum. Aside from supplementing a few activities or books here and there, everything you need is very well laid out. It definitely built my confidence and belief in myself as a first time homeschool mom. And we decided to continue with what we were comfortable with. So far, with our first week complete, I think Ada, too, will do very well with the kindergarten curriculum! And it's been fun to get going on first grade with Grayson! There's a good bit more "work" for Grayson but so far he has enjoyed the challenge and has done well! :) He and I are finally making the transition to no nap. During the little ones nap, we do some "big kid school". This has worked well. Grayson is a boy who thinks very highly of quality time, so just 30 minutes spent just with him and you can see his heart fill up with joy. He needs it. He thrives on it. So it's definitely a good transition we are making, but sure can prove to be a challenge late in the day when exhaustion sets in. I know he will adjust, and I will also! It's quite different not having those few minutes to take a quiet potty break, eat my lunch, plan dinner and pick up around the house, but as I said, the time is well used so it's worth it! :)
I mentioned how well Ada is doing. She absolutely loves school time and actually begs for more! She is my child who can actually make use of cleaver Pinterest busy bags, and who thrives on desk work! She's quite a lady for only being 4.5! ;) She's very attentive, observant, and eager! I look forward to getting into the weekly units with her, because she will absolutely soak it up!
Individually they are doing well and together, it has been amazing! That has by far been the best part of this first week! You would think adding another child on a different grade level would just add way too much stress and chaos to keep focused, but actually, they seem to feed off of one another in a very positive way! Grayson loves having company (he rarely likes to do anything alone) so having Ada just working along side him has been good! And Ada loves looking up to him and letting him teach her what is going on! It has been a joy to witness their growing bond just in this past week!
I will say up front, there will probably only be a small portion of the pictures during school time this year as compared to last! I said it's going well but don't get me wrong, that is a BUSY time of day! I hope to do a quick update/rundown weekly just to have some things to look back on and remember but I can promise there won't be a detailed photographed blog for every unit this year! Last year was fun, but my instincts tell me that won't realistically happen again! Ever. Ha. ;)
Playing with pattern blocks! This is a train he made. :)
We found some pretty neat online resources for math and reading! He was all over that! :) His favorite subject is math so I make the most of it! ;) He says that first grade is going to be awesome! And I am just going to have to agree with him on that! :)
Working on her Creation Book! :)
We are five days into The Creation Story! She already has such insight into God and what He does for us, so I think she will really get a lot out of the weekly units! :) Her quote of the week would probably have to be, "you know God forgives us everytime we make a mistake. He tells us it's ok, He still loves us." Tell me one day in your life you haven't needed to hear that??
She and her brothers teach me so much everyday. :)
