Cows, who knew they could be sooo much fun! We have had the best time! "Milking", making butter, farm mural! It's just been fun!!
We also started a special thing this week to motivate indepedent reading! He picked the treat...so we will celebrate ice cream party style after he independently reads 20 books! We have made a little chart and add a scoop each time he completes a book! :)
Day 1, we did the basic introduction to the unit and looked into cows! We even did some milking, which was quite entertaining! :) We are learning a farm is a lot of hard work!!
We have finally added in the last vowel for our "short vowel song"! Handwriting and math! As I have said every unit, he loves math!! And he tolerates handwriting! ;) But this week, he has had the best attitude towards everything!! Even the handwriting!
Our cow badge! :) And we did a little poem reenacting! He enjoyed this a lot! We made the cat a fiddle and a moon for the cow to jump over. He went through this several times and had to leave it set up all day!
Making butter!! How fun! I have never done this before and it was so super easy!!! Simply put some heavy whipping cream in a jar with a sprinkle of salt, turn on some music, and SHAKE!! It took about 20 minutes of dancing and shaking and then we got to taste the finished product! Yummy!! :)

Read, Read, Read!!This is so cool to witness! What an awesome accomplishment! Huge milestone in life, and once you do it, so many many opportunities for learning and imagination open up!
Cutting pictures of food items that contain milk! He found them, cut them, and glued them on paper! And we got a lot of it for our dairy meal the following day!
He, Ada, and their cousin spent one evening making a mural of a farm in January! They did a wonderful job!! :)
He spent a long time "rainbow coloring" his days of the week yesterday! Took forever, but it was fun! ;) We also got to bundle another 10 days together! We are so close to 100!!! :)
After picking Ada up from school, the kids and I wandered through Publix, gathering food items for our dinner menu...a dairy meal! They picked great stuff...yogurt covered pretzels, crackers and cream cheese, shredded cheese, cookies with cream, yogurt, chocolate milk, and a yummy ice cream cupcake! Daddy was very impressed with this meal! ;)
We finished our fourth Magic Tree House book! And I goofed and didn't get a picture of Ferdinand from our unit!! But that was a fun one! First time I had heard it as well.
We had a teddy bear day, because Ada was having one at school and he asked, so we did! We also had a cow sit in on the lesson as well! Cuisenaire Rods have always been fun for him, but he has been particularly into them the last two units. He spends an enormous amount of time with them, and you can see the concept of each rod being made up of ones starting to take shape. His math skills freak me out a little because neither Chris nor I are huge math fans. I found it fun, and actually enjoyed it a lot, but I wouldn't ever say I was "great" at it. ;) So, if he keeps on, we might have to find a teacher for math, cause he might outsmart me on that subject! ;)
Another interest that has grown tremendously over the past few weeks, is cooking! He loves it...once again, Chris nor I are huge fans of cooking, so maybe we can find someone to teach him that also and he can come home and cook away! ;) It really is fun to have his help in the kitchen! Especially with my attempt lately to do more in there!
So that sums up our cow unit. I love how this curriculum takes something as simple as a cow, and uses it to teach such wonderful lessons. Just like a baby thirst for milk, God wants us to be hungry for The Bible, too. It will help our spirits grow! What an amazing concept! It was so much fun! School in general was fun. It seems the older he gets the more fun it becomes! Throw in a few siblings and I see some serious cooking and school fun in our future!!!! But, to focus on now...we will "gallop" on to the horse unit! ;)
"Like babies that were just born, you should long for the pure milk of God's word. It will help you grow up as believers. You can do it now that you have tasted how good The Lord is." 1 Peter 2:1-3
