A new addition to our advent countdown and Christmas preparation was "The Giving Manger". I have to say, it's hard to decide when you consider adding something else to do when you already have 4 kids, but this was worth it! It came with a book that described how the true gifts of Christmas are what's done/given in love. Each time an act of love was done...chores, treat for the mailman, candy cane given out, delivering cookies...they put a piece of straw in the manger. It was beautiful to see them make the perfect bed for baby Jesus on Christmas morning. They loved it and I did to. I want them to always be mindful of others and thank people every chance they get. They really got into it and had so much fun sharing their love with one another and strangers! The older they get, the more I see how they really get it. They get that love is what matters and that no matter how small a gift, if it is given with love, then it is bigger than any other. I just happened across an ad for this and hesitated, but after some thought decided that was exactly the direction I wanted our Christmas' as a family to go, so I went for it, and I'm so glad! This will remain a part of our Christmas' to come for a very long time, if not forever!
