"Do small things with great love"

Today was a good day! A fun day! :) After sending little sister off to school and laying little brother down for nap, my big boy and I dove into our school lessons for the day! He was interested and motivated! It was wonderful! Most days really are like this, but last week was "off" for some reason, so it restored my spirit and his, I think, to have such a great day!!! We got our worksheets done and then made applesauce as a little activity, which he loved so much! I read a quote a while back and can't remember, to make it direct ,but said something like, most of what a homeschooled child remembers doesn't come from a textbook. This is so Grayson! He loves doing stuff! So of course, the applesauce was a big hit! He was full of gratitude today...constantly saying "thank you" and talking about how glad he was to be doing this together! It did my heart good! Although, some days are long and attitudes fly...he seems to really understand deep down what an amazing opportunity we have to do this together!!
After picking up Ada Grayce from school, I  dropped off the "big" kids to see their Nina for a little while! It was much needed for them and gave me 2 hours to clean the house!! Yippee! Not that it's all that important, but a clean house sure does feel good! Grayson and Ada helped me finish up when they got home, and then it was time for Daddy!!
This evening was nothing short of perfect! I had already started sweet potatoes in the crockpot and roasted veggies in the oven, which Grady ate his weight in! ;)
We decided that we would make am apple pie with the apples we picked this weekend so we all settled in, read our book and made our pie! It was so fun to have Daddy doing this with us! So our bedtime snack was a funny looking, but yummy, yummy apple pie straight from the oven!! I am not a cook, but I can say we had fun with this! :)

The recipe we used was from our book for the week! :) I will share it with you!

We did use pie shells...that part we cheated on! ;)

Ingredients:
5-7 apples
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
2 tablespoons of butter

Preheat oven 450*. In large bowl, mix together sugar, cinnamon and salt. Peel, core, and cut apples. Toss the apples in sugar mixture. Arrange apple slices in pie crust and dot with butter. Cover pie with top crust and cut some vents in the top. Bake 45 minutes.

It was so so yummy!!!! :)

So although some days are trying, today was just what I needed!

I read that this morning and it made me do some thinking!!! ;) I may not change the world everyday, and I might be "just a mommy", but I am going to do my best to give my all! <3
