Courage

Courage is defined as
the ability to do something that frightens one. Oh boy!
Being courageous, at times alludes me.

It's that time of year again for the annual home school conference. I get to hear some amazing speakers, get a little weekend away, and get that last little push to finish the school year with my kiddos and even begin looking forward to next year!

What I got most from tonight may have possibly had little to do with homeschool and lots to do with faith. Fearless, courageous faith. And boy does God have impeccable timing! Sometimes I dissappintment myself in how little I trust Him. How little I step back and realize He's good and faithful and will not leave us alone. Life, at times, is overwhelming, surprising, and brings you to your knees. And, as I heard tonight, "if it doesn't bring you to your knees, you're doing it wrong!"  And often times it's those things WE can't control that overwhelm us the most. And it's during those times, He sends people and things to us that say, "wake up! Don't be fearful. Don't lack courage." I heard that tonight. Just at the moment I needed to.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love, and sound judgment."
(2 Timothy 1:7)

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

These verses apply to us and they apply to our children, and it's our job to teach them this...not just by our words but our life!! (Boy did I need that!!) What do you think our children get out of us saying, "do not be afraid", yet we stand there trembling in fear?! What do you think they see the most?? It is NOT what we say...it's what we DO that they remember.

Over and over, in the Bible, (there's so many more times), God tells us not to walk in fear. But it's human nature to fear what we don't control. But maybe, just maybe, we can learn a huge lesson in that. God did not create us so that WE could live our life. He created us so that HE could live life through us. And sometimes that means letting go of control and fear and clinging to God and courage. Living fearlessly for our children. Because our ultimate goal is to teach them to live fearlessly for God...to have courage. Love and live fearlessly today and in that He can fill us with courage. <3
