Rowing Through Week One

School has gotten off to a great start! We worked our way through the first week with mainly good attitudes and cooperation and little brother joined right in! ;) This year we began some new subjects and so far everyone is excited. We started cursive, Spanish, and Grayson began formal spelling lessons this year as well. He's very happy with his grades so far, and I am too!

All other subjects are covered in our Five In a Row lesson, which we are LOVING! This type of thing fits them so so well! We started with an easy book so we could all get in a groove. Our first week we rowed through "Blueberries For Sal". This one was particular;y fun because it gave us an excuse to plan a day trip to grandma's and pick blueberries and make jam. Fun for everyone! ;) We spent science day exploring more about bears and the loved that, also.

We also enjoyed a little sensory activity while we squished the berries to make "paint". Grady was particularly fond of this activity. ;)

I also decided to make interactive notebooks this year just to give Grayson a little more action when he's doing his spelling and science recording. He seems to like it and Ada appreciates all things creative (sort of like her mom in that area ;) ). That's been a positive add-in as well. So far, we are having a ball and learning lots! Rowing "Owl Moon" next week and already looking forward to it. :)
