Exploring The 47- King's Mountain

Kings Mountain! Feels like it was yesterday that we were there, but it's been almost 3 months now!! Agh! But we won't spend too much time talking about how fast the months fly by. We had a memorable visit to Kings Mountain! It was our first pretty hot, humid trip of the year and also included several pop up summer storms, but was an enjoyable trip, nonetheless!

Our first night was all about lightening bugs and marshmallow roasting! And it was perfect.

Day 2 we adventured a little and took a look around at the living history part of the park, the kids enjoyed exploring and then we squeezed in a mile out and back hike. We spent some time with Chris' family, the whole thing, which was a treat. We ate hamburgers and banana pudding and celebrated his dad for Father's Day. It was a fun afternoon.

We then went on another little exploration on the Kings Mountain battlefield trail. It was a great interpretive trail and only 1.5 miles so very pleasant and doable for the kiddos....until the pop up summer storm...when we were on top. So we all got a very quick look at the monuments as we ran by in the pouring rain! lol. It's definitely something we look back on and laugh at. I ran most of the way with the 3 big kids and daddy had the hard job of toting a toddler and moving as quick as possible to the car. It was very interesting to see the kids different reactions to the storm as well...Ada and Grayson were pretty much un-phased, they continued meandering along and stopping to read the signs. Grady and Analeigh were a tad bit nervous, just because of the storm and the hurry, I think. Grady's final words about it was.."as long as I could see you and Daddy I wasn't nervous"...goodness, how that spoke to my heart. If he only knew how hard his Daddy and I will always fight to be right where he can see us.

Day 3 was a little fishing, playground and hanging out between rain storms.

If there ever was a girl who knew how to dance in the rain, it's this little tiny girl of mine.
The big kids and I may have had a little too much fun with snapchat filters while we waited out a storm at the playground. ;)

So for a trip that we almost headed home early, due to weather, we had a wonderful time and made some fantastic memories. I'm pretty sure, sitting around a fire or finding a good hike with these kiddos will rank among my most treasured life moments, when it's all said and done!
