Bringing in The New Year a New Way

Since having children, the hubs and I have rang in very few (maybe none) New Years. We kiss, call it a night, and wake up to a brand new year. This year, now that the kids are growing up, we decided to get them involved! Nope, no midnight for us...we did our celebration from 8-12 in the morning! So our new year officially began at 12pm on New Years Day! I cannot think of a better way to spend the first day of a new year or anyone else I would rather spend it with! We really did have the best time celebrating! Ada says, "I have never been to a party this long!" ;) Grayson was enjoying himself and as usual the little one was just tagging along! ;)

Each person got to pop a balloon with an activity inside as we counted down. Nothing super fancy, really low key fun stuff to keep us busy. Grayson got us started with making party hats!

Ada was next! They were allowed to pop the balloon any way they choose...her method, stomping! ;) Her activity was riding scooters.

Sweet Grady decided to saw his balloon open. ;) And with his, we did a year reflection and made resolutions for the new year! It was so fun to think back on some of the highlights of this past year! Disney, birthdays, apple picking, beach trip, and just lots of family fun! The kids seemed to enjoy making goals for the new year as well.

Daddy's balloon was fun! We all sat with a bunch of recyclables and made shakers. This was fun! Not often we can talk dad into doing something crafty. I think he may have even enjoyed himself! ;)
My balloon was last! We found a fun countdown on Netflix and had a balloon drop! Tons of confetti, loud shakers, screaming kids and balloons everywhere...true Powell fashion!

Dad ended the celebration with a toast to the new year and with that it was officially 2016! :) Can't wait to see what this year has in store!

And for the first time, I made like a "real" New Years Day meal! Collards, corn bread and black eyed peas. And I think the kids actually enjoyed it!
We ended the day with our first family run of the year! 2 fun miles to get our mile tally going for 2016! ;)
